Animal Rights and Responsibilities

When our teacher announced the theme for this year’s national history was Rights and Responsibilities throughout history we immediately thought of animal rights and responsibilities. We both had similar interests in the animal rights as a topic. We thought about the different types of animal abuse and narrowed our topic down to a range from animal testing to poaching. We thought this would be a good way to get across the message about what responsibilities we have as humans to protect animals. This helped to sculpt our thesis statement which is “Animals should have the same fundamental rights as humans because they cannot advocate for themselves. They should not be caused pain for unnecessary reasons, and they are entitled to possession of their own lives.”
We first started conducting our research by using our thesis statement to provide as a statement in which we were trying to prove. We knew we wanted to look for sources having to do with animal testing and poaching but we had to know where to look first. So we got help from our librarian and she recommended some sites and organizations we should take a look at, so we did. We found multiple cover stories and interesting facts using these resources. They also led us to some organizations that played a major role in our research, such as PETA. Going from there we found some amazing people to interview and some very fascinating videos, texts, and pictures. This combined together is what made up our research.
Trying to figure out how to present the information we gathered was tougher then we imagined. There were so many ways to come about presenting our topic it was hard to choose. But we finally decided on making a website. We figured this way we could display all of the videos and pictures we gathered while also being able to write about it. Our website was to be organized yet full of information. We started by adding tabs to the important subjects then going from there. We worked long and hard to get the website perfect and exactly how we wanted it. We did this by adding links and other helpful tools. A website was perfect for us because we could neatly display our information and teach others about the true meaning behind animal rights and responsibilities.
This year’s theme was rights and responsibilities in history. Our topic ties to this theme in multiple ways. One different and unique way it ties to it is that animal rights and responsibilities has been a struggling matter since the late 1800s; and it’s still a struggling matter today. So many things have been improved and many laws have been created for animal rights throughout history & are still being created today. Animals have affected the world in many ways and they’ve changed the world in very many ways. Because this our topic relates to the theme in more ways then one.
