Sinclair Jr., Upton. The Jungle. New York: Doubleday, n.d. Print. The Jungle was one of the first books of its kind. The jungle educated people about the conditions and welfare of the meatpacking district. If it weren’t for Upton Sinclair we would probably still be eating nasty meat and medicine. From what I read of the jungle, I felt enlightenment knowing that we have more humane and sanitary procedures today. I am also thankful that I am a vegetarian, and don't cause cruel treatment to animals. Upton’s gory description of what Jurgis witnessed in the slaughterhouses is step towards better treatment to animals. this book is a great representation of the animal rights movement, and is a great primary source.
